Moving dad from a large home to a 2-bedroom apartment wasn’t as difficult for him as I thought it would be. The biggest surprise for us was the amount of time to tag, sort, donate, and give away items he didn’t want or need. We called on family members and movers and we paced ourselves to allow him some time to make decisions. After three months, we moved Dad. He is very happy in his new home and feels comfortable and secure.
Helping a parent downsize for a move can be complicated. Where you see a houseful of stuff to sort and toss, your parent is apt to see treasures, essentials, and a lifetime of memories. If you are about to embark on this adventure, here are some great tips.
